Foundations of Astrology: Modern vs Traditional

◇ ✦ ◇
The split between modern and traditional astrology is the single biggest divide in how a chart can be read. Modern astrology, born alongside depth psychology in the 20th century, reads the chart as a map of psyche — a record of inner patterns, drives, and potential. Traditional astrology, stretching from Hellenistic Alexandria through the Medieval and Renaissance periods, reads the chart as a map of fate, fortune, and timing — a technical instrument as much as a mirror. Lineage: the modern school draws on Jung, Dane Rudhyar, Liz Greene, and the humanistic-psychology tradition. The traditional school draws on Vettius Valens, Bonatti, William Lilly, and the Hellenistic-to-Medieval chain. Both are alive today; the contemporary revival of traditional technique is one of the most active currents in the field. In Aurathea, these two schools speak through two tones: the Modern tone carries the contemporary psychological voice; the Classical tone carries the traditional voice, using Hellenistic dignities and rulerships. If you want to feel the contrast inside a single chart, request the same reading in both tones.
